Great Show!!!

Banyan Theatre's end of season show

Did anybody get a chance to check out Banyan Theatre's The Clean House by Sarah Ruhl in Sarasota? Friday night's performance was so solid! The maid Matilde, hysterically played by exotic hotty Karina Barros, started the show with a hip gyrating short monologue entirely in Portuguese (or was it Spanish? She is from Sao Paulo. I'm still kicking myself for taking French.) There were 5 great cast members that Doug Jones directed in a show which examined the many angles of cleaning. The maid HATED to clean and the stay at home sister of a woman doctor LOVED to clean. That was the clothesline on which heavier topics of death, fidelity, life's purpose and self importance were hung. My friend, Ann Morrison, got the cherry role of getting her ta-ta's kissed in the shadows in the first act by Doug Jones, no less. Then she takes some serious tongue from a different sweet dude in the second act. Ohhhhhhhhhhhh the perks of performing! Ann has performed on Broadway in Merrily We Roll Along and Lovemusik and shouldn't be missed if you get to see her here in Sarasota. This show closed yesterday and another great summer season at The Banyan has come to an end. It was Carole Kleinberg's first season as artistic director and I'm so proud of her. This lady came from Chicago several years back and has really touched Sarasota's theatres in meaningful ways. She directed me and 12 other ladies in "The Good Body" by Eve Ensler earlier this summer and definitely has a knack for it. What live shows, if any, did you see in Sarasota this summer? Anything good? What show are you most looking forward to seeing this theatre season? Maybe we can get a group together?
